This is not only his personal achievement but also a matter of pride for our country India. Aslam Parvez’s unique experience in disaster management and risk reduction and his farsightedness will not only take the objectives of ADPC to new heights but will also help bring about positive change across the Asia-Pacific region. Aslam Parvez, a former constituent of the Thailand-based international organisation Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC), has been selected as the Executive Director of ADPC. He has a dynamic vision for the future of ADPC in disaster risk management and has vast experience in the field. Which ensures continued growth and success. Our country India is a founding member of this organization. Apart from India, this watershed also includes China, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand. These countries have ratified the Intergovernmental Charter. Speaking to Waqf Today, Aslam Parvez outlined his priorities in pursuing the strategic goals of ADPC. Which ensure community impact and long-term sustainability of the program. “I am very happy and excited about the opportunity to work with our board members and founding member countries to carry forward our legacy and meet the challenges of the future,” he said. Born in Kishanganj district of Bihar, he completed his post-graduation degree in Science from the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University in 1993.This appointment is indeed a matter of pride for our country India and has been an important and integral part of ADPC since 2005. He has successfully implemented many initiatives contributing to the objectives and development of ADP to save the countries of Asia and Pacific from further devastation. His role in all these has been crucial, his knowledge, innovative approach and proven leadership skills make him the right candidate to lead ADPC. Aslam Parvez chaired the Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Group (DRRWG) of India from 20-6 in 2023. ADPC was represented in the meetings and has also been working with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Battelle Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. He has over 24 years of experience working on disaster risk management systems and climate change issues for more than 20 countries in Asia, Pacific, Africa and Europe as well as Central Sopacific-SAARC Asia. This includes implementation of initiatives at local, national and regional levels, institutional strengthening, research and analysis of soil vulnerability. He has done MA in Statistics from India. In addition, during his training in disaster risk management, he has been involved in global and regional initiatives on disaster risk planning, climate resilience and digital resilience. Before joining ADPC in 2005, he worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Institute for Economic Growth (IEG) in India.
