A proud “Aligarian” of the 1970s, Professor Ahmad represents the pinnacle of scientific achievement. He is a rare individual who has balanced a high-impact research career in Earth Sciences with the leadership of some of India’s most prestigious central universities.
Quick Statistics & Academic Milestones:
Academic Roots: Completed both his B.Sc. (1975) and M.Sc. in Geology (1977) from AMU. He later earned his Ph.D. from JNU and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge and the University of Leicester, UK.
Triple Vice-Chancellor: In a rare feat, he has served as the Vice-Chancellor of three major institutions:
University of Kashmir (Two terms: 2011–2014 & 2018–2022)
Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (2014–2018)
Earth Scientist of Repute: An expert in Igneous Petrology and Geochemistry, he spent nearly two decades as a scientist at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology.
